Jason Halse reports on the Under Eights

Llantwit Major 2  Llanharan 4
We made the short journey up to Rhydyfelyn where we were in a round robin against the home team and Llantwit major. First up were Llantwit major whom we have played on a number of occasions this season. The team which included Kian H, Ieuan T, Luke, Louis, Dan, William and Cohen, played really well showing that all the hard work they are putting into training is paying off, scoring some very good tries through Luke (3) and Louis. The team defended well getting some good turnover tags.

Rhydyfelyn 4 Llanharan 4
Next  the young Black and Blues played the hosts. The team consisting of Ajay, Ben, Harry, Harley, Thomas, Taylor and  Regan, played some good rugby again demonstrating encouraging skills which they have developed through their hard work at training and scoring some very good tries through Regan 2, Thomas, Harley.  In response to this back came Rhydfelyn scoring some good tries of their own, their last minute of the game try resulting in a draw. All the boys within the squad played some excellent rugby with supportive team play which brought tries and their defensive attack was brilliant.

Many thanks to Rhydfelyn and Llantwit Major for their friendly welcome and the friendly manner in which the game was played. As always thanks to the parents and grandparents for their continued support through the season.
Defender of the week went to Taylor, and Attacker went to Regan.

Jason Halse reports

On a fresh Sunday morning the young Black and Blues took a short trip to the seaside town of Porthcawl. Today’s team: Ajay, Alex, Ben, Cai, Dan, Harley, Ieuan T, Louis, Regan, Taylor, Thomas and William. The team gave a warm welcome to Dan, Ieuan T and their families who have recently joined the team.

The boys played extremely well against an organised Porthcawl side. The Black and Blues defence was encouraging, tagging the opposition just before the try line and having a number of turn over balls. The boys’ team work and supportive play resulted in a win with a 14 - 12 score line. Tries were scored by Ajay (4), Louis (4), Regan (4), Thomas and William.

We would like to thank Porthcawl for their warm welcome and the spirit in which the game was played, and to the parents and grandparent who came along today to support the team

Whilst the failure to get the Youth underway this year has been a disappointment, future prospects look bright.

From our under 15 set up our former player Meredith Griffith reports that five players have been selected for the Pontypridd schools Dewar shield squad 2014-15. They are Iwan Griffith, Ryan Parsons, Liam Bradford, Ieuan Pring and Lloyd Gregory.

The club congratulates them and wishes them every success.

It is hoped the Pontypridd team will play a game at the Dairy in November

Jason Halse reports

For our first game of the season we embarked on a short journey to my old stomping ground Pencoed. Here we had a round robin against the home team and Ferndale.

Match 1 - Pencoed 2 v Llanharan 8

The young black and blues were very keen to have their first game of the season, (Ajay, Ben, Cohen, Ioan, Kian W, Steffan, Thomas, and Regan). The boys gave it 110% playing very good defensive rugby; they were well organised and demonstrated excellent skill, sidestepping all over the park. Tries we're scored by Louis (2), Kian W, Steffan and Regan (3). All credit to Pencoed they never gave up and kept the pressure on scoring two tries in the second half. Thank you to Pencoed for the warm welcome and to the good spirit the game was played.

Match 2- Llanharan 5 -Ferndale 5

As with the players who played in match 1 the boys were hungry to have their first game of the season (Alex, Cai, Coby, Cohen, Harley, Kian H and Taylor.). The game started at a fast pace against a physical Ferndale team. The boys remained composed and committed and defended really well having some excellent tags. There was encouraging supportive play which resulted in a draw; tries were scored by Cohen (2), Harley (2), and Taylor scoring his first try a brilliant start to the season. Thanks the Ferndale for the friendly manner in which the game was played. As always thanks to the parents / grandparents for your continued support. Well done boys keep up the good work. Player of the week went to Taylor for scoring his first try and defender of the week went to Alex.

What an experience for our teams, a chance to play at the BT Arms Park in the U8's Blues Tournament. We were fortunate to be able to enter two teams into the tournament - team Nikki and team Jason. Both teams were excellent in defence and all players gave it their all scoring some very special tries. It was encouraging to see that all players came together not only as team mates but as friends and really enjoyed the day.

Team Nikki included Alex Allen who scored his first try at the Arms Park, and then a second, Well done Aiden Mumford, Cai Bartlett, Coby Thomas, Harley Bowen, Ioan Martin, Kian Hucker and Luke Evans. The boys were excellent and although tired towards the end from a long day playing 7seven eight minute games, and spending all day in the sunniest part of the pitch, gave 110%. Their defence and skill sets were excellent during these very fast paced games. All players played well as a team and were very supportive of each other.

Team Jason included Ajay Lewis, Ben Williams, Kian Wilson, Louis Jones, Regan Halse, Steffan Jones, Taylor Anderson (who celebrated his 7th Birthday) and Thomas Smith. Again these players, as in team Nikki, showed exceptional skill and speed scoring some outstanding tries. The sidestepping of the players was brilliant and the pace that the games were played at was incredible. Defensively the boys attacked the game and their supportive play was great to see, all of which contributed to them getting through to the semi finals against a strong and well organised Beddau team. The final score 2- 4 to Beddau.

Both coaches, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles alike are extremely proud of the boys who played tremendously in their first tournament of the season. It was great day which was enjoyed by everyone.

JASON HALSE REPORTS

A fitting end to the season as the young Black and Blues (Ajay, Cai, Dylan, Elliot, Eoin, Jacob, Louis, Luke, Mason, Regan, and Reuben) were home to face a round robin against Whitchurch and a team we have played against a few times this season Tondu.
Llanharan 8 v Whitchurch 2
Our first game was against Whitchurch. The boys set off a fast pace with Elliot making a good break from the half way line to score our first of four tries in the first half within minutes of kick off. The boys defended really well and their tagging was excellent resulting in a number of turnover balls.  Whitchurch regrouped and scored their own try just before half time.
All credit to Whitchurch they defended well and scored another try in the second half.  They also had some good tags just before Llanharan's try line.  The boys held it together and upped their game and scored a further four tries resulting in an 8-2 win to Llanharan; tries were scored by Ajay (2), Elliott (2), Eoin, Luke and Regan (2).
Llanharan 5 v Tondu 0
After a short break the boys played their second game of the day and final game of the season against Tondu. We have had a number of encounters against a well organised Tondu team this season.  The game as expected was played at a fast pace and both teams defended well.  Llanharan held it together and played some encouraging team rugby which resulted in a 5-0 win. Tries we scored by Elliot, Eoin (2), Luke and Mason.
